African micro, small and medium-sized enterprises need new support and support policies to strengthen their productivity and exploit existing commercial opportunities in order to contribute to the emergence of a competitive private sector” declared H.E. Mr. Achille BASSILEKIN, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Social Economy and Crafts in Cameroon.
To this end, to ensure better food security, the development of the agricultural sector is imperative for national economic growth. Today, SND30 sets the course towards a structural transformation of our economy and highlights sectors with strong economic potential. The latter are priorities for the BC-PME Agricultural Window and there are five (05) in number. We will talk about the 1st sector identified in particular “local flours” which are plantain, sweet potato and we will emphasize cassava.
Why cassava? Cassava (and its derivatives) was chosen as Cameroon’s flagship and strategic product to conquer other countries at the time of the lowering of tariff and non-tariff barriers of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF). A staple food consumed by more than 500 million people in Africa, cassava offers unique potential for creating added value with a view to implementing the ZLECAF. At BC-PME, we have aligned our strategic vision on financing and support for the agricultural sector in order to be aligned with the orientations of the national development policy.
